Towards modeling of phonation and its recovery in unilateral vocal fold paralysis by fluid-structure interaction

چکیده
Introduction: Vocal folds are responsible for sound generation. In unilateral vocal fold paralysis (UVFP), the recurrent laryngeal nerve, which controls folds, is paralyzed. Medialization laryngoplasty a surgery in an implant inserted to push paralyzed centerline recover phonation. Methods: Here, numerical simulation used calculate flow-related parameters give insight into what happens healthy and treated(implanted) their enhancement. present work, airflow over modeled considering fluid-structure interaction (FSI) varying inlet pressure. The governing equations discretized fluid solid domains solved using Galerkin finite element method. boundary conditions unilaterally were imposed agree with real cases behavior. Results: results showed effectiveness of medialization treating concerning folds. Conclusion: This provided better treatment patient-specific cases.

The principal symptoms of unilateral vocal fold paralysis are hoarseness and difficulty in swallowing. Dyspnea is comparatively rare (Laccourreye et al., 2003). The extent to which unilateral vocal fold paralysis may lead to respiratory problems at all – in contrast to bilateral vocal fold paralysishas not yet well been determined. On the one hand, inspiration is impaired with unilateral vocal ...
متن کاملVocal improvement after voice therapy in unilateral vocal fold paralysis.
Unilateral vocal fold paralysis (UVFP) is associated with changes in acoustic and aerodynamic voice measurements and can have a significant impact on a patient's quality of life. Few objective data regarding the efficacy of voice therapy for UVFP exist. The aim of this study was to retrospectively analyze voice modifications in a group of patients with UVFP before and after voice therapy. Forty...

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS The relevance of the cricothyroid (CT) muscle in patients with unilateral vocal fold paralysis (UVFP) remains controversial. To clarify the functional significance of the CT muscle in patients with UVFP, the confounding effect of the severity of recurrent laryngeal nerve injury should be taken into consideration. In the present study, quantitative laryngeal electromyograph...

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS Unilateral vocal fold paralysis with no preceding causes is diagnosed as idiopathic unilateral vocal fold paralysis. However, comprehensive guidelines for evaluating the defining characteristics of idiopathic unilateral vocal fold paralysis are still lacking. In the present study, we hypothesized that idiopathic unilateral vocal fold paralysis may have different clinical a...
